'Act responsibly'

LOCAL Government Minister Parveen Kumar has issued a stern warning to all public service transport and truck companies that they will be fully responsible for damage they make on public amenities.

Mr Kumar made this comments while officiating at the 5th Local Government Forum at the Albert Park conference room in Suva on Wednesday.

He said a particular bus company in Suva was told to rebuild a damaged bus shelter after they accidentally crashed into it.

"Just few weeks ago, we made a bus company repair the damage they did to one of our bus shelters. We made them repair it and I must warn the bus companies and all the truck companies if you are going to damage any of our bus shelters or the signage you will have to repair, simple as that," Mr Kumar said.

He also said people could report such matters to the Ministry of Local Government if they see this happening.

"We should involve and inspire our citizens in town and cities to act responsibly and their care for public properties and urge humanities.

"I would urge the general public to keep an eye on those things and if you come across these situations please do inform us.

"We will make sure they do it and we'll make sure they repair it. They will have to do it," he added.
