A SUVA Tongan church launched a Tonga Cyclone Gita relief called Cracker Aid to help those who were affected by the recent Category 4 storm.

Apitonga Church is looking to collect 1800 buckets of biscuits to be sent to Tonga for distribution by the Tonga Red Cross.

Executive member Dr Masasso Paunga said the Tongan community in Fiji had made the effort to start this drive to help their people back home after the devastation of TC Gita.

"We are here just to represent the Tongan community to help out those who suffered from TC Gita," Dr Paunga said on Thursday.

Apitonga is working in partnership with FMF Foods Ltd, and according to Taholo Kami, who is also an executive member of the church, FMF has made a deal to sell a bucket of biscuit for $20.

"We're asking the public if they can join us, the Tongan community in Suva, in terms of how many buckets we can get before the 8th of March," Mr Kami said.

Members of the public can take their contributions to the WOWS Kids Fiji office at Rewa St.

"For those willing to help us please bring your money to us, don't purchase the buckets yourselves because it will cost you more. A receipt will be given to you and the money collected will be taken to FMF to buy the buckets of biscuits,"

The last day for collection is on Monday, March 5.

The church will also run a fundraising drive this morning at the Suva Bowling Club and a fun run at the University of the South Pacific's gymnasium at 6.30pm.
