Flavoured kava for NZ market

GREEN Gold Kava owner Praveen Narayan says he is keen to showcase his two kava flavoured drinks at this month's Pasifika Festival in Auckland.

"We are delighted to showcase Fijian flavours in kava from our partnership with Pacific Trade and Invest (PTI) NZ and Otago University in developing a kava drink infused with NZ and Pacific fruits," Mr Narayan said.

Green Gold Kava, a Path to Market alumnus, was also part of the PTI NZ's Deal by Science initiative, a partnership with the Otago University's Food Science Department that aims at applying scientific rigour to island food products to improve their shelf life, packaging and general consumer appeal.

The partnership produced two kava flavoured drinks for Green Gold last year and Mr Narayan told Pacific Periscope: "Green Gold will showcase its award-winning kava products to the ever vibrant and wonderful people of New Zealand at Pasifika.

"The kava flavoured drinks will also be sold at discounted prices to encourage trials," Mr Narayan said.

He said after Tropical Cyclone Winston they were really unsure about the response from New Zealand but since then had been received with open arms by the New Zealand community and were given a great chance to do business with its counterparts there.

Green Gold Kava is a second-time participant at the Pasifika Festival this year.

The Pasifika Festival will be held in Auckland later this month on March 24-25.
