THE Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has sent condolence messages to the families of flight instructor Iliesa Tawalo and trainee pilot Merelesita Lutu on Thursday.

Party leader and former prime minister Sitiveni Rabuka in his message said it was a sad day for Fiji that two promising young citizens lost their lives in the incident.

The party issued the messages after authorities confirmed the deaths when the aircraft went down at Delaikoro near Labasa in Vanua Levu.

"I offer sincere condolences and prayers to the families of Iliesa Tawalo and Merelesita Lutu," he said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their extended families at this most difficult, trying time." Pacific Flying School's Mr Tawalo and Ms Lutu died when the aircraft they were in crashed in the hills of Delaikoro, Macuata, on Monday afternoon while returning to Labasa.
