'Follow traditional protocol'

TUI Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has reiterated that traditional protocol should always be followed even in cases of investigations that involve village boundaries.

His comment follows the traditional approach taken by police on Tuesday night at Dogoru Village, Macuata.

Ratu Wiliame said a team from the Macuata Provincial Council also presented a matanigasau to him, asking that the rescue teams be forgiven for stepping into vanua boundary without following traditional protocol.

"I understand that our law enforcers need to carry out their work first which is important and sometimes it happens. Our law enforcers will need to move into the area of concern first as an immediate need," he said.

"However, it will not change the fact that the vanua still needs to be respected.

"That's our lifestyle, our culture, it's who we are as iTaukei natives of this nation and it will remain forever."

Ratu Wiliame said he was happy to see such traditional protocols being followed.

After the police presented their matanigasau on Tuesday night, the wrecked Pacific Flying School's Cessna 172 aircraft was found on Wednesday morning.
