LTA: 32 infringement notices for undue noise on buses

Update: 5:32PM FIJI'S Land Transport Authority issued a total of 32 traffic infringement notices (TINs) in the past year, largely for causing undue noise, 89 TINs for the conduct of drivers and 248 TINs were issued for carrying excess passengers.

LTA acting chairman Ashok Patel today made a call to all bus drivers to refrain from making unnecessary noise that could be of great inconvenience to members of the general public.

Mr Patel's call comes after concerns were raised on loud music and passenger behaviour in buses.

He said in some cases, passengers asked the drivers to turn up the music, especially the younger generation.

"Sometimes the drivers reduce the volume of the music when passing Police or LTA checkpoints and once they are in a 'safer zone', they increase the volume, but we do not condone this practice," Mr Patel said.

"Our enforcement team throughout Fiji are issuing traffic infringement notices (TINs). Also, LTA cannot have mobility and visibility 24/7 so if possible, the customers can lodge a complaint by texting the vehicle number, time and location to 582 or report to police for drastic action if traffic offences are created."
