Update: 3:17PM ONE hundred and fifty women from Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata on Vanua Levu braved the wet weather to be present at the Northern Craft show in Savusavu yesterday.

Fiji's Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa applauded the women for utilising their talents and skills that had contributed to the development of the nation.

"Fiji has come a long way in transforming as a society that believes in the empowerment of women and recognises their contribution to the development of our nation," Mrs Vuniwaqa said.

"I wish to reiterate the need to recognise the contribution of women to the development of our nation. Women, especially rural women, having toiled under circumstances of stereotypes for centuries owe it to themselves to embrace how they can be effective actors of development within their homes and the society."

Eighty women from the Northern Division have also been chosen to be a part of the National Women's Expo in June later this year.
