Update: 2:47PM SUVA Grammar School students participating in any sport have always been encouraged to play clean and win with their heart effort.

In an interview today during the school inter-house competition, SGS principal Segran Pillay said the athletes were told to have a long-term goal for themselves and the school as a whole.

"The advice we've been giving them is to play clean, do well and enjoy what they are doing," Mr Pillay said.

He said as far as the two-day meet at the ANZ Stadium was concerned, they were rolling in well with time and did not have any hiccups with the 3000m event.

"This morning, things are looking out very well as anticipated.

"We have a few gold medallists from last year and we are keeping a close watch on their program as we are anticipating that they will do well this year.

"Some had gone as far as fourth place and bronze medal positions and we are trying to see how we can get that up to another level.

"My sincere appreciation to the old scholars, parents and Grammar Rise-Up, the body that has been looking after athletics for the last two years.

"I'm very impressed with their commitment, preparations, time and finances they have invested into our athletes."
