Gamel sets game plan

VODAFONE Fiji football coach Christophe Gamel is running against time to select the best team to play the Philippines in an international friendly in the Philippines next month.

Gamel said the players would go into camp on March 5.

"I expect the players to come to camp on March 5 and it would be short time to prepare to face one of the biggest teams in Asia," Gamel said.

"Our focus is the 2026 FIFA World Cup. I have involved new players in the team.

"I hope to get Scott Wara for the international match against Philippines and it will give him a taste of playing for the Fijian national team. If he is called by England then we have to accept it," he said.

"We will have less than two weeks to prepare, but we have to deal with it although some of the players would be involved with their respective teams in the OFC Champions League.

"We can continue to develop good football and that is the only way we can face any team in the world in future."

The match will be played on March 22.
