Test for Lautoka

THE Vodafone Lautoka team is wary of what to expect in the final Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League group match against Auckland City in New Zealand tomorrow.

Both teams have qualified for the quarter-finals from Group C and tomorrow's encounter will ensure the top placing.

On paper defending champions Auckland City is firm favourites recording two big wins so far without conceding a goal. Auckland City hammered AS Venus of Tahiti 7-0 and Madang FC of Papua New Guinea 5-0. Lautoka defeated Madang FC 3-1 in the opening encounter and downed AS Venus 2-1 with Samuela Drudru nailing the winner in injury time on Wednesday.

Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy told the OFC website he was proud that Lautoka would represent Fiji in the last eight of the competition but their attention would quickly turn to trying to upset a rampant Auckland City.

He said they never gave up hope against AS Venus after conceding a goal in the fourth minute.

"We never gave up hope that the goals would come despite falling behind in the first half," Swamy said.

"In the first half we created a lot of chances and were able to break their defence. We were positive about that and that's what kept our players going.

"Yes we are the team from Fiji which has qualified for the quarter-final which is a positive sign and now we will see how we will play against Auckland City."

The match will kick-off at the Trusts Stadium in Auckland at 3pm.
