DEFENDING Nadi Football Association local league super premier champion Blues Football Club One will face former champion Namaka FC One in the opening round of the competition at Prince Charles Park on Sunday.

Blues FC One won the title last year after defeating New Way Electrical DCA FC in the final. In the semi-final, Blues FC One beat Namaka FC One 6-5 in the penalty shoot-out.

Nadi Football Association president Javed Ahmed said KK'S Hardware had come on board to sponsor the league.

Ahmed said 11 teams had registered in the super premier division with matches being played on a round robin basis.

He said the 14 teams in the premier division had been divided into two pools.

"The super premier matches would be played over 90 minutes," Ahmed said.

"Togo and Warriors United are the two new clubs that have registered this year. We are grateful to KK'S Hardware directors Kamlesh and Kavit Kumar for sponsoring the league competition.

"We have a one month break from the Vodafone Premier League competition, so this is the ideal time to kick off the local league.

"It is an early start for us and hopefully we will wrap up the competition well before the dates for the National Club Championship zonal playoffs."

Teams have been reminded to clear their mandatory fines from last year before playing their matches.

Ahmed said a $300 fine would be imposed if a team did not take part in the parade.

"The referee's decision will be final and all complaints are to be formally lodged to the association," he said.

"Four substitutes will be allowed in each game and defaulting teams will be fined $300."

Malolo FC and Downtown Blues FC will play in the opening match which kicks off at 8.30am.
