Radradra ready for national rugby campaign

DUAL rugby international Semi Radradra is keen to represent the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians while former Nadroga rep, Alivereti Raka has turned down the offer and has set his sight on France.

This was confirmed by Flying Fijians head coach John McKee, who is in Europe scouting and meeting potential talents for the national side for next year's Rugby World Cup.

"I had a brief meeting and conversation with Semi Radradra following the Toulon v La Rochelle match last Sunday," McKee said from France yesterday.

"He expressed a desire to represent the Flying Fijians. Raka has expressed a desire to play for France. Although I am disappointed I respect his decision."

Raka, a former Nadroga provincial rep, has been a star attraction for his Clermont Rugby Club in France.

McKee said he would meet Radradra, Josua Tuisova and some other Fijian players next week.

"I will be travelling to Toulon next week as my final club visit and spend two days there.

"I will use this time to fully discuss with Semi and Josua Tuisova my plans towards RWC 2019. I hope to get face to face with around 35 players across UK and France over the three weeks," McKee said.

The Flying Fijians are set to face Romania, Georgia and Tonga in the June Test window.

While a number of players are keen to don the Fiji jumper, McKee said players would be selected on form.

"No player gets a promise of inclusion in the Flying Fijians. Selection will be made on form to ensure the best possible team is selected to represent Fiji.

"There is a lot of competition for places in the team among the outside backs," he said.

Meanwhile, McKee also confirmed that there is no chance of getting Isa Nacewa who is currently in good form for the Leinster rugby side.

"Isa Naceva has never made himself available and although he is still playing some good rugby at 35, he is off my radar," McKee said.
