THE Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji has been alerted to the oil leak that occurred at Port Denarau, Nadi, last weekend.

Port Denarau Marina Ltd general manager Cynthia Rasch said MSAF was promptly informed of the oil spill as soon as it happened.

She said the leak was detected in the fuel lines leading to the dock.

She said their team responded by shutting off the fuel lines and containing the spill with an absorbent boom.

Ms Rasch said the fuel company was carrying out investigations as to how this occurred and was working round-the-clock to carry out repairs to the line.

She added while they understood this was an accident, the marina and the fuel company were taking such incidents very seriously and were working together to ensure that there was no further damage.
