THE family of a trainee pilot who was on the Pacific Flying School's Cessna 172 aircraft which crashed on the Delaikoro Mountain range on Monday was not kept informed about emergency response and search.

Following the discovery of the crash site and bodies of the two aviators, Emosi Lutu, the father of the 20-year-old trainee pilot Merelesita Lutu, said it was one thing he wished had been done different during the three-day ordeal.

"The information we are getting is only from the training school, nowhere else, no updates," Mr Lutu claimed.

The Pacific Flying School, however have kept the family informed, beginning with a telephone call on Monday afternoon when the plane lost contact with air traffic control.

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, the trainee pilot's sister, Ulamila Lutu, said the family had appointed a relative to glean whatever information was available in the media and elsewhere.

"It's been frustrating that we are not getting it straight from the source because we would have loved to have had this," Ms Lutu said.

"It's been tough, but we are holding strong together and with God's help. We are keeping in touch with our siblings overseas and it's kept us strong."

At midday Wednesday, when search teams located the crash site, upon the instructions of the Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu, two officers from the Samabula Police Station finally began to update the family.

The family have stayed off social media after reading negative remarks, which Ms Lutu said had caused the family more grief.

In a statement, police said all the matters pertaining to the investigation and the uplifting of the two victims' bodies were being relayed to the victims' families.
