CONSTRUCTION regulations are being drafted aimed to address issues such as licensing, conditions of contracts, tender processes as well as building and safety standards.

This was revealed by Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations acting director occupational health and safety (OHS) Lui Mario during the Construction Industry Council (CIC) monthly meeting at Paradiso Restaurant in Suva yesterday.

According to Mr Mario, the draft regulations concerning construction issues were now with the Solicitor General's Office.

CIC president Gordon Jenkins said the draft regulations had the full support of the council.

Members were also given an update on the upcoming CIC conference scheduled for June 14 to 16 at the Warwick Resort on the Coral Coast.

"We are gratified at the growing interest in not only the conference but in the trade show as well," Mr Jenkins said in a statement.

"We see this as a major event to address critical issues that have been weakening this vital industry for far too long.

"There needs to be workable solutions and the conference will be a starting point towards that."

The council is comprises all the major construction associations in the country, including the master builders, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, hardware suppliers, developers and project managers.
