Nine years in prison

Friday, March 02, 2018

A NAVUA businessman convicted of raping his caretaker's wife at a warehouse on his farm was yesterday told by the High Court that he showed no regard for the complainant's right to be protected by her boss.

Justice Salesi Temo told Govind Sami that his action was a serious breach of employer authority.

He made the comments yesterday while sentencing the 62-year-old to nine years in jail for the offences.

Sami was convicted of two counts of rape and one count of indecently annoying any person.

The incident happened between July 2014 and October 2016. Sami will be eligible for parole after serving eight years.
