THE vanua of Macuata may put up a memoriam plaque in remembrance of the late Merelesita Lutu and Iliesa Tawalo who lost their lives at the Delaikoro mountain range after their plane crashed.

Macuata high chief Ratu Wiliame Katonivere said this was a right thing to do in remembrance of the pilots whose lives were lost in the vanua of Macuata.

The vanua will also consider the possibility of naming the crash site after them.

He said the two never knew what awaited them on that Monday afternoon when the Cessna 172 aircraft they were in crashed at Delaikoro.

However, he said the communities could still remember the two and the tragic incident by putting up a plaque or a memorial site for the two.

Ratu Wiliame said the memorial site would be established at Dogoru Village.

"That will be a good thing to do because the two will always be remembered by the many today and generations to come," he said.

"The incident has shocked many around the country and we are all saddened by the fact that the lives of two young people have ended as a result of the crash.

"Their future dreams and plans have ended and we send our deepest condolences to their respective families.

Ratu Wiliame said he would discuss the memorial issue with the people of Dogoru Village.

"We will definitely be looking to this issue and might even name part of that Delaikoro mountain after them," Turaga ni mataqali Korobugani Toni Taukei said, agreeing to the idea.

"We will look into that and discuss the issue with the Tui Macuata."
