Update: 11:45AM A PATHOLOGIST and the Fiji Police Force forensics team are part of the team that went to the Pacific Flying School Cessna 172 crash site on Delaikoro in Macuata, Vanua Levu, this morning.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu confirmed this information this past hour and added the bodies of pilot Iliesa Tawalo and trainee pilot Merelesita Lutu were left on the scene last night, guarded by the search team.

"Director of Criminal Investigations Department SSP Mesake Waqa, the Force pathologist and a forensic team are enroute to the crash site to conduct the first phase of investigations," ADCP Tudravu said.

"Officers of the joint search team guarded the scene last night and once the director and his investigation team arrives at the site, a decision will be made on when and where the post-mortem examination of the two victims will be conducted."

"The decision will be made by the Director CID on site based on the state of the victims' bodies."

The family is now being kept informed on the progress of investigations.

Last night, Ms Lutu's father Emosi Lutu told The Fiji Times that he wished authorities could have handled the communications aspect of the search and recovery effort better.

Mr Lutu said the family had received no word from any authority prior to being informed the wreckage was located.

Prior to that, all information had been relayed by the Pacific Flying School adminstration department.
