Biggest chance

Kameli Rakoko (F/T 20/02) spoke my mind when he wrote that "the avid readers of this column have indicated that they enjoy the little side stories that come with it".

Indeed I love reading articles which are presented by the likes of illustrious sports journalists such as Pravin Narain, Maikeli Seru and Kameli Rakoko.

And then, how on Earth could one forget the beautiful and interesting articles written by the late Paula Tagiveitaua.

Stories add flavour to any literary piece.

This week, the hardworking crew members of our number one newspaper led by senior sports reporter Maciu Malo and photojournalist Jovesa Naisua will cover the Las Vegas 7s.

Mike did a wonderful job in Hamilton with his articles and stories.

Reading articles directly from the venue contains that extra touch and flamboyance and brings a lot of joy and enrichment.

Yesterday, I read an interesting piece by evergreen Rakoko titled "Biggest chance" and Rakoko wrote about the life and achievements of the Navosa lad and former sprinter from Natabua High School Batinisavu Uluiyata.

Uluiyata is fast making headlines and impressed many with his breaks for the Fiji Warriors side.

It's good to unveil a new sensation because after Hamilton 7s Alasio Naduva would have been heavily marked anyway.

So this gives Uluiyata an opportunity to shine in Las Vegas if he made the cut and paired with the likes of Nasilasila,

Jerry and Sau to make our backline lethal.

A pacemaker, Batinisavu has been learning a lot from former Fiji winger, 1997 RWC winner and Police coach Manasa Bari, nicknamed the "Black Pearl".

Meanwhile, Gareth Baber and our boys have to prove that the win in Hamilton was not fluke but was achieved through sheer dedication and hard work.

We are miles behind the leaders South Africa but with six of their regulars absent Fiji stands a good chance of cutting the lead.

Rakoko pointed out that our boys need to maintain the intensity in defence and attack and to prove they have the mental toughness to be consistent.

Toso Viti! Let's put aside the Hamilton win and focus on getting the Las Vegas title, which has been a happy hunting ground for the Fijians!
