Citizens' rights

Emosi Balei, Suva
Thursday, March 01, 2018

I note that some of our laws (Decrees or Laws passed in Parliament) have provisions which do not allow any person to challenge them in any court or tribunals or on any forum.

Could the Fiji Human Rights Commission advise whether these restrictions contravene the rights of citizens of this country to challenge these in a court of law?

My question to the lawmakers would be, what are the basis for these additional provisions which do not allow a legal challenge?

The reason for my questions is that I have always thought that it is my basic right to challenge any decision based on these laws in a court of law if I do not agree with them.

It appears that these provisions curtail my basic human rights.
