Winning members

ONLY four members of the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team to play this weekend have tasted victory at Las Vegas. The players are Jasa Veremalua, skipper Jerry Tuwai, Vatemo Ravouvou and Amenoni Nasilasila. The above record will boost the nine other players to come out of their comfort zone and to stamp their name as USA sevens winners.

West dominates

Apart from skipper Jerry Tuwai who hails from Vanua Levu, the rest of the players in the national 7s team are originally from the West. Nadroga Navosa players are Jasa Veremalua (Nadroga), Mesulame Kunavula, Josua Vakurunabuli, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Vasikali Mudu, Amenoni Nasilasia and Batinisavu Uluiyata. Yasawa has three players in Kalione Nasoko, Vatemo Ravouvou and Eroni Sau while Paula Dranisinukula is from Ra. Waisea Nacuqu is from Votua in Ba.

Fiji wins in USA

Fiji has won the USA 7s for three years since the commencement of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Two wins recorded at Las Vegas in 2015 and 2016 under the guidance of former coach Ben Ryan and one recorded in 2007 during the San Diego 7s — coached by former captain Waisale Serevi. South Africa recorded the most tournaments win with four titles.
