Fiji faces Scots in November Test

THE Fiji Airways Flying Fijians will play a Test match against Scotland in their opening Europe Autumn tour at Murrayfield in November.

Coach John McKee said his side needed this sort of matches to prepare for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

"We are very excited to be playing Scotland as the opening match for our November Tour," McKee said from France yesterday.

"These Tier 1 Test matches are very important for our preparation for RWC 2019.

"We need to test ourselves against the world's best teams. Scotland will present a big challenge for us as they play very well at home. This is shown in their win against England in the Six Nations match."

Scotland last week defeated England 25-13 and will face Fiji on November 11.

A release on the official Scotland Rugby website said Scotland would start its autumn series with the clash against Fiji.

"Gregor Townsend will kick-off his second season in charge of Scotland against the thrilling Fijians, and will no doubt be eager to reverse the result the last time the two teams met in Suva at the end of last summer's tour, when his side narrowly lost. This is Fiji's first appearance at BT Murrayfield since 2009 and with players such as Niko Matawalu and Leone Nakarawa who are favourites in Scotland, it promises to be an exciting start to the international season," the statement read.

Fiji beat Scotland 27-22 at the ANZ Stadium last year during the June Test series.

The remaining Test for Fiji at the autumn series in November is yet to be announced.

At the Rugby World Cup in Japan, Fiji is pooled with Australia, Wales, Georgia and Uruguay.
