THE Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) received a major boost towards its preparations for the annual music awards to be held later in the year.

Communications Fiji Ltd (CFL) gave a cheque for $5000 to the organisation in Suva on Tuesday for the "most popular song of the year award".

Viti FM programs director Maikeli Radua said the sponsorship was to support the development of the local music industry.

"Our approach over the years has not changed. We are here to present our donation to FPRA today (yesterday)," Mr Radua said.

FPRA director Seru Serevi thanked CFL for the support over the years in the development of local musicians and composers in the country.

Serevi said without the support of sponsors, the organisation would not be able to host the annual awards night.

The music awards night will be held on Saturday, May 12, at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
