TWENTY crew members of the US Coast Guard vessel Polar Star took part in a community service event and cleaned up My Suva Picnic Park at Nasese yesterday.

Polar Star ensign Christopher Popiel said this would be a good way to give back to Fiji for being such a gracious host since their arrival on Tuesday.

"We thought it would be a great opportunity to give back to Fiji as our gracious host, for letting us visit this country so we figured we'd find a way to help out and this is a great way," he said.

"We have about 20 volunteers from the Polar Star who all volunteered to sacrifice their hard-earned liberty time while here in Fiji offering to help out the community here."

The Suva City Council commended the efforts shown by the crew members for cleaning up the park.

The Polar Star crew conducts a community service event at each port it docks in.
