POLICE cordoned off all access points to Delaikoro yesterday.

Media personnel and members of the public were restricted from accessing these points.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu confirmed they needed to cordon off these access points.

"Due to the nature of the investigation and because it is an aviation-related incident, the area that will be cordoned off will be wider," he said.

"This is why movement will be restricted. This is being done for the sake of preserving the scene and any evidence that could assist in the investigation process."

Efforts made to reach Delaikoro Rd from Nasaqa Village proved futile as villagers sat at the entrance of the road and blocked off all access.

Attempts to get permission from divisional police commander North SSP Verani Nakauyaca were also denied.

Dogoru Village headman Semi Radradra told this newspaper that they had been advised by police and other authorities to cordon off all access points to Delaikoro from the villages.

He said villagers were at all access points as watchmen to ensure that no one accessed the road to Delaikoro.

Last night, The Fiji Times was banned from taking pictures of the villagers at the foot of Delaikoro Rd.

The villagers at Nasaqa, who were at the foot of Delaikoro Rd, said they were only carrying out the directive from police.
