Update: 9:52PM PEOPLE of Kadavu have extended their appreciation towards the Assistant Minister for Agriculture Viam Pillay for his consultative visits to farmers and their farms on the island last week.

Mr Pillay informed villagers of Kadavu that the purpose of the Agricultural Ministry's meeting was to consult with farmers on assistance available with the Ministry.

"We're here to hear from you and to get first-hand reports on our programs and assistance from the Ministry to farmers like you and also ensure that all assistance is distributed to all our farmers here in Kadavu," Mr Pillay said.

"We will make sure that Kadavu will not be exempted from assistance from the Ministry and I will definitely be back to follow-up on all the issues regarding farmers here in Kadavu."

According to a press statement issued by the Department of Information, Peni Naulu spoke on behalf of the Chiefs from Kadavu and said the commitment shown towards the sector in Kadavu by the Agriculture Ministry would boost agricultural productivity on the island.

"The province of Kadavu has its dreams and its vision, we would like to be a prosperous island and to become self-sufficient and active," he said.

"We're eager to meet with you and to discuss with you about the development of agriculture here on the island and to actually relay to you that our mainstay and livelihood is agriculture."

"I hope your brief visits to the island of Kadavu will instill and prompt a lot of development for agriculture so that we can improve our lives further and in that regard, we can also hope to achieve our dreams and visions."
