Bridge woes

Tomasi Boginiso, Nepani, Nasinu
Wednesday, February 28, 2018

The Naikelimusu bridge is located in the Nakelo tikina and beside the village of Naimalavau.

The bridge has been checked by relevant authorities and as they say it's solid as a rock. But the banks on either side have lost soil and are eroding. The bridge cannot be solid if its surrounding is not secure.

Minister Parveen Kumar has promised us that the situation is in the pipeline and it has been well over two years now.

Our main concern is that we are losing a lot of farmland on one side and our youths' playing grounds on the other side.

A lot of farming is now being carried out on the roadside or further towards the swampy area.

Most of the villagers of Naimalavau rely on farming and fishing for daily consumption. We therefore plead once again if the banks of Naikelimusu bridge can be filled or maybe extend the existing sea wall from the village to continue to the bridge.

Hopefully Parveen Kumar will look into the Naikelimusu bridge request once again.
