White canes

Luke Nacei
Wednesday, February 28, 2018

VISUALLY impaired adults and children across Fiji will now have the confidence and safety of travelling independently, especially at night. This came after 200 white canes were given by the Australian Government to the United Blind Persons of Fiji through the Walk with Confidence campaign on Monday.

The white canes are one of the most important identification and mobility aid for people who are blind or have low vision.

UBP vice-president Lanieta Tuimabu said one needed to learn the basics of using a white can before actually travelling on his or her own. Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes said he was impressed by the number of organisations involved to deliver this project.
