A-G: More participation in commerce

WE look forward to more Japanese participation, not just in the tourism sector, but also in other commerce, trade, finance and investment areas says, Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Civil Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

"Because we believe that a number of exciting projects that Government will be announcing in the next few months will give added advantages to Japanese businesses if they were to invest in Fiji," Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

He made the comment after signing the exchange notes with Japanese Ambassador Masahiro Omura, for the Amendment of the Route Schedule of the Air Service Agreement (ASA) between Fiji and Japan

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said this would further deepen the relationship between Fiji and Japan as the ambassador highlighted because there's nothing like connectivity.

"The other important point about connectivity between Tokyo and Nadi is the hub status for Fiji.

"As you know we now fly to San Fransisco three times a week, we fly to LA every day and Tokyo, Narita we'll be flying three times a week and also to Singapore we are flying three times a week, also Hong Kong we fly five times a week.

"It's an opportunity for other Pacific Island countries to connect to Japan."

Meanwhile, Japanese ambassador Masahiro Omura said the formalising of the amendment of routes under the Fiji Japan Air Services Agreement was an auspicious occasion for Japan-Fiji relations.
