Heavy rain warning for north, central Fiji

Update: 10:57AM A HEAVY rain warning remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau, Lomaiviti Group and the Northern and Eastern half of Viti Levu and Kadavu.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 10.30am today, an active trough of low pressure with associated clouds and rain remains slow moving over Fiji and is expected to affect the group until tomorrow night.

For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Northern and Eastern parts of Viti Levu and Kadavu: periods of rain, heavy at times and few squally thunderstorms are expected with localised heavy fall which may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.

For the rest of Fiji: cloudy periods with some showers, isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected.

Showers mays increase to rain and become frequent and heavy from later today while localised heavy fall may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.

The next special weather bulletin on heavy rain will be issued around 1.30pm today.
