Tourism and rugby

These two are great friends and cannot live without each other because they are related in many ways, but our country's tourism industry is one of the greatest beneficiaries through the many international tournaments our 7s and 15s national teams play offshore or here at home through its millions of viewers and supporters.

Tourism Fiji gets $30 million from our Government's national yearly budgets and so is $20m for the marketing of Destination Fiji, our many hotels, resorts and other tourism operators do go out of their own way and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to individually market their own products in creating awareness offshore, but we all know what little FRU gets for the very big expectations that come with it. I would like to ask my kai-vata from Nadi and Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya to please kindly get all our tourism stakeholder think-tanks to sit together in one room so we can all work out how best we can assist and gather support for the Fiji Rugby Union in its endeavour to bid successfully for a 7s international tournament to be hosted here.

It requires every Fijian support and input in whatever way possible, Fiji for 7s, let's go Fiji, toso Viti toso.

I believe just one tournament alone in Fiji will certainly benefit and boost our country's economy, sense of belonging and national pride, lift the standard of every service we will provide, it will make Fijians happy should we win our own tournament and we will demand from our government to give us a public holiday, we will see to that any yaqona seller in Fiji runs out of this muddy water with most of us not turning up to work the next day still in celebration mood.

When it comes to 7s rugby Fiji goes to party mode where we go nuts and very crazy.
