Ba registers first win

THE Men in Black, Ba claimed their first Vodafone Premier League win beating Rewa 1-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.

Ba showed class and determination from the first minute with Kishan Sami, Abu Zahid, Malakai Tiwa and Avinesh Suwamy trying their luck at the Rewa goalmouth. It was Zahid, who slammed the ball into the net after receiving a neat cross from Sami midway in the first half, to secure Ba's win.

The Marika Rodu-coached Rewa side also created some chances in the match with Epeli Saukuru, Setareki Hughes, Misaele Draunibaka and Jonetani Buksh toiling to break the sturborn Ba defence, but failed.

Ba manager and lady luck Sabrina Khan, who returned to the Ba camp after 10 years, was happy with the team's performance.

"I told the players to start fresh after competing in the OFC Champions League. I reminded the players in the changing room to believe in themselves and go back heads up," she said.

"Every team comes prepared and at the end of the 90 minutes, the scoreboard tells it all. Rewa gave us a good game, but hats off to Ba players who countered that well. The morale was down in Vanuatu when we did not perform to our expectation, but we left it behind and started fresh."

Commenting on Rewa's performance, Rodu said his players took the wrong route to the goalmouth.

"We have improved in our game from the Lautoka match and the Ba players were left unmarked in the match. Players around the ball switched off and this kind of mistakes are killing our chances to progress despite creating attacking opportunities," he said.
