Karen runs to inspire mothers

ZUMBA instructor Karen Michelle Krishnan hopes to inspire Fijian mothers to be physically active.

Karen, a health education consultant in Nauru, is also a nutr i tion and fitness coach.

The mother of two says her inspiration lies on her experience with mothers who dream of being healthy. "In my field of work, I meet a lot of mums who talk about their dreams of being healthy or going back to pre-baby size or even running in the Suva Marathon but they don't believe they can do any of this because now they are mothers.

"So I run to inspire them. If I, as a local mum can participate in the Suva Marathon, so can they," she said.

"I run once a week and I teach Zumba and CoreFit (pilates + tabata) together so am physically active about six days a week. The cross training helps during the long run."

In this year's charity run, Karen has signed up to fundraise for Save The Children.

"I love the annual 2018 Island Chill Suva Marathon.

"It provides us with a great opportunity to test our limits.

"For me I run the half marathon (21.1km).

"I had walked a half marathon in New Plymouth, NZ a few years ago. Until last year, I did not even know I could run, let alone run 21.1km.

"It's a great opportunity for self-discovery."

She also said living a vibrant healthy lifestyle would help you achieve so much in life. For the Island Chill Suva Marathon, Karen is calling on members of the public to come and participate.

"Come with friends and family and do the event together. Don't be afraid of the distance or tell yourself that you cannot do it.

"At least you can say that you tried and know your limits."
