ONE of Coral Coast's most famous tourist service providers have not only won many awards over the years, but has grown and expanded its operations too, according to its managing director Jay Whyte.

Mr Whyte made the statement in his reaction to his company, Sigatoka River Safari, winning the Fiji Pride Champion and The Fiji Tourism Leader award at the ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards 2017.

In a statement issued yesterday Mr Whyte said the Fiji Pride Champion award was won by Sigatoka River Safari's jet boat captain Josh Ratukuna while the Tourism Leader award was presented to its founder and managing director Mr Whyte.

The Fiji Pride Champion award recognises a tourism professional who has been employed in the tourism industry for more than five years and who demonstrates a passion and commitment for personal and product excellence.

The Tourism Leader award recognises an individual's outstanding contribution to Fiji tourism over many years and their engagement in developing local community and ensuring future sustainability of industry with local talent.

"Not only has Sigatoka River Safari won many awards over the years, but we have grown the company to now include three other tours, Off-Road Cave Safari, River Jets and Water Blob which have all helped promote tourism in Fiji," said Mr Whyte.

"None of this would have been possible without my dedicated team, who each day work hard to ensure our guests experience unforgettable and authentic Fijian tours," said Mr Whyte.

"I am so honoured to have won this award and so proud of Josh winning the Fiji Pride award. Josh joined me at Sigatoka River Safari when I first began in 2006 and we have worked so hard to not only grow and make Sigatoka River Safari a success, but to help the 17 villages we work with and ensure we are always giving back to them."

Meanwhile Mr Ratukuna said: "I am so proud to have won this award. I have been the Jet Boat Captain at Sigatoka River Safari for the past twelve years and I love what I do, who I work for and all the guests I meet every day. Talking about my beloved Sigatoka River Safari and Fiji comes natural to me and I am just so honoured to win this prestigious Fiji Pride Champion award."
