PNG quake no threat

Update: 1:14PM A 7.4 MAGNITUDE inland earthquake was recorded in the Papua New Guinea region this morning.

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10km.

It was located 292km West from Goroko in PNG, 610km Northwest from Port Moresby in PNG, and 4091km Northwest from Suva.

The Mineral Resources Department's Seismology Unit said it was a major size earthquake with shallow depth source location.

But the MRD confirms there was no threat to the Fiji region.

The department also recorded a seismic activity within the Fiji region at 2:41am this morning.
