Test for bowlers

BOWLING greens at the Commonwealth Games will be a challenge for the Fijian bowlers says veteran bowler Samuela Tui.

The Fiji bowling men's and women's team competed in the Kontiki Finance National Triples competition at Suva Bowling Club greens which ended yesterday.

"We wish the bowlers well," he said.

"The bowling greens in Fiji and in Australia are totally different and it is very fast, but I hope they can adapt to the green fast and play well.

"In Fiji, the speed of the greens are running at between 12-15 seconds whereas in Australia the greens are running at 17 to 20 seconds which takes the ball to travel from one side to another side of the green. For bowlers if the ball reaches there in 18 seconds then it is fast and if it reaches in 13 seconds then it is too slow."

The 59-year-old had represented Fiji in the three World Bowls competitions and one Commonwealth Games which was held in Glasgow, Scotland.

"The bowlers who had been selected to compete at the Commonwealth Games also competed in the competition in the men's and women's category. With the inclusion of the Fiji team bowlers it took the standard of the competition to another level," he said.
