Real-life problems

Luke Nacei
Monday, February 26, 2018

Churches need to work together to combat problems such as violence against women and children and non-communicable diseases, says newly-inducted general-secretary of the Fiji Council of Churches the Rev Iliesa Naivalu.

He said Government alone could not provide solutions to these issues and it needed the assistance of the council.

"We can also be the voice of the church to the Government by working together and pointing out issues that we believe will affect the lives of the people in the nation," he said.

"We will tell the Government you cannot do this alone, you need us.

"The call is now for all the churches to come together and look at the problems with one voice.

"That will make a huge impact among the people."

Mr Naivalu also said there was a need for church leaders to start speaking to their members about real-life problems.

"We are going to go down to the members of our churches and start telling them about what can be done.

"We are now ready to make that move and also to reach out to those people who haven't been attending church. They need to be told these things."

Mr Naivalu was inducted at Baker Hall in Davuilevu, Nausori, yesterday.
