1 week to solve issues

Minister for Transport Parveen Kumar has ordered the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to solve the issues that were raised by the Fiji Driving Schools' Association by the end of this week.

He said the issues highlighted yesterday during the Fiji Driving Schools' Association Central/Eastern divisions annual general meeting in Suva could have been solved earlier by LTA.

"I believe there are a lot of things LTA could have solved earlier on rather then me coming in this meeting and asking LTA to make sure they revisit and resolve those issues because they were very simple issues," Mr Kumar said.

Some of the issues raised during the association's meeting included corruption allegations against driving examiners, the delays in LTA's services and the illegal operation of driving schools.

"I've given them (LTA) one week to resolve all these issues and there were few issues that were raised and they will bring the brief to me and we will make sure that all these issues are addressed.

"There are certain things that they've already done but they are sitting with it like the translation of road code, it's been done but they haven't launched it and we will do that next week."

There are 107 driving schools in the country with 49 located in the Central/Eastern divisions, 14 in the North and 44 in the West.
