Update: 5:16PM A FORMER police officer was sentenced by the High Court in Lautoka to eight years imprisonment for raping a woman in 2012.

While sentencing the father of two last week, Justice Paul Madigan said a father of two very young children at the time should not have been out drinking 3am in the morning.

"His family circumstances are not mitigatory value," Justice Madigan said.

However he said the accused has a clear record and had spent three months in custody.

The 40-year-old will serve seven years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
