Tuva wins U19 title

TUVA stamped its mark as the best under-19 team of this year's Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s defeating last year's champion Ratu Filise 12-7 in the final at Prince Charles Park yesterday.

The absence of some prominent team members that won the recent Uprising Youth 7s at Lawaqa Park, Nadroga, did not deter the players from fulfilling their goal.

Flyer Iowane Tuiwaisale was the star for his team scoring the winner in the second spell to seal the game.

Coach Sikeli Dakuni said the absence of their key players inspired the rest of the boys to win the title.

He thanked the four St John Cawaci students who travelled from Levuka this week to join the team.

"Iowane played well today and combined well with his teammates to win the title," said Dakuni.

"I must also commend the four Cawaci boys that helped the side win our second major trophy this year.

"Most importantly we thank the Almighty God for blessing this team."

Dakuni said the team which also included players from Semo and Nadroumai villages in Nadroga were given a tough test by the Namatakula youngsters.

"We survived a tough test and I must thank all players for their efforts," he said.

"The players comradely worked together to win another major title this year."

Tuva defeated Nawaka in the semi-final while Ratu Filise ousted Saunivalu.
