WORLD Archery Fiji (WAF) will hold the first qualifying tournament for the 2018 Oceania Continental Championship in Suva today.

The championship will be held at New Caledonia in July.

WAF general secretary Ajay Ballu said they would have three tournaments to select the best archers.

"We are expecting about 10-15 archers to compete in the qualifying tournament today. The archers will shoot double 50 metres and double 70 metres."

Ballu said competitions among archers in the championship would be intense.

"There will be archers from Australia and New Zealand. It would be very tough for our archers."

He said there would be a selection criteria for archers to meet and the team would be announced after the third qualification tournament.

"We had a good turnout after coming back from the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu and more people have joined in the sport."

The first qualification tournament will be played today at St Joseph's Secondary School grounds in Suva.

Meanwhile, Ballu has been selected to officiate at the Oceania Continental Championship.
