RATU Kadavulevu School under-19 rugby league team successfully defended the Tanoa Challenge trophy after defeating Assemblies of God High School 20-8 at the St Marcellin Primary School grounds in Vatuwaqa, Suva, yesterday.

Vodafone South East Secondary Schools Rugby League president Akuila Vute said RKS had set a platform for other schools regarding the kind of competition that was needed.

"With RKS performance winning their second challenge, all schools are slowly adapting to the rhythm of playing rugby league," he said.

"The momentum is there but they need more game time and we hope come next week the level of competition is going one step up."

Vute has urged players to prove themselves if they want to make it to the Canberra Raiders club.

"This is an ongoing initiative by FSSRL to identify young potential players for contracts overseas. We have teachers who are helping out in identifying these players," Vute said.

"Our players have been outstanding in showcasing their talents and we know that our players have what it takes for them to don the Canberra Raiders jersey."

The committee is expecting the level of competition to be intense come next week.
