Road upgrade plea

Laisa Whippy, Koronivia Rd
Saturday, February 24, 2018

The unprecedented, unparralled development continues in the northern and maritime zones.

Residents in those areas can now enjoy amenities and facilities that were only available to city and town dwellers until now.

This should (hopefully) put a halt to the rural to urban drift along with the social ills it brings.

As much as I'd like to celebrate this milestone, I can't help but wonder if the Koronovia road is likely get a facelift in the foreseeable future?

I've been a resident of Koronivia road for the past five years and one can be forgiven for occasionally thinking they were on the moon because of the overwhelming omnipresent dust on this road sometimes so bad there's zero visibility! My heart goes out to the schoolchildren who encounter this on a daily basis.

It seems outer islands and other parts of Fiji are being given priority for road upgrading while this densely populated 10 mile long road stretching from the Kings Rd to Lokia landing along the Suva-Nausori corridor, home to two schools and hundreds of students, continuously gets neglected.

Although the Government has done some upgrading on some parts (which we greatly appreciate), eliminating a fair bit of dust, bulk of it remains untouched.

I urge the authorities to look into the plight of Koronivia residents and kindly consider upgrading our road. We've been neglected for far too long.
