DUDLEY High School student Melchizedek Katafano wants his last Coca-Cola Games in April to be a memorable one.

He wants to win a gold medal.

Katafano won a silver medal during the 2017 Coca-Cola Games intermediate boys 400 metres final.

He later got a sporting scholarship in the United States of America, but turned down the offer because he wanted to compete in the annual competition for the last time this year.

Yesterday during the Dudley High School inter-house competition, Katafano broke the school record in the 400m clocking 48.64 seconds beating the previous record of 58.86s.

He also participated in the 1500m, 800m, 100m, 200m and the relays.

"Since this is my last year in school, I wanted to participate in various events. My usual events are 400m and 200m. Our school motto this year is to step up and after winning a silver medal last year, I will work hard and try to do that and win gold this year," he said.

Katafano and Kinisimere Namoutu won the 100m blue ribbon events. Katafano clocked 11.02s to claim the victory while Namoutu in the senior girls completed her event in 13.82s.

"I came second in 800m, 1500m and won the 100m, 200m and 400m," Katafano said.
