Bid to boost trade

THERE are about 20 exporters in the Northern Division with total exports amounting to more than $26 million in 2016.

Investment Fiji chief executive officer Godo Mueller-Teut said their concerted efforts had helped these exporters to enter new markets, undergo trade exhibitions, workshops and capacity development programs.

Mr Mueller-Teut said inter-agency workshops with other approval agencies would go a long way in assisting the investors and exporters in the country.

"Such close collaboration enhances investor confidence that leads to the economic prosperity," he said.

Mr Mueller-Teut made the comment after Investment Fiji had conducted two inter-agency workshops in the Northern Division over the past three months.

This is part of government's "Look North Policy" and Investment Fiji is actively involved and working collaboratively with other relevant government agencies to boost trade and exports from the Northern Division.

He said their close collaboration with key government agencies had also assisted the exporters to export with ease.

The North workshops included divisional commissioners, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, Ministries of Forest, Fisheries, iTaukei Affairs Board, Fiji Roads Authority, Northern Development Program and the District Office Macuata.

Investment Fiji also initiated the inter-agency committee to facilitate and promote export and investments in the North and this will be spearheaded by the Office of the Commissioner Northern.
