ONE of the two men who were sentenced yesterday for aggravated robbery was described by High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo as a person who was a threat to the community.

Twenty-seven-year-old Kaminieli Turagaloaloa, a habitual offender, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment while 20-year-old Sela Rayawa was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. The two robbed assorted items amounting to $16,519 from a Total Service Station in Laucala Beach on January 6, last year.

Justice Temo said Turagaloaloa's personal record and deeds showed that he chose to live outside the law and a long custodial sentence was inevitable.

He further added he observed during the trial that the chances of rehabilitation for Rayawa was high and he must first pay the penalty for his wrongdoing.

Justice Temo also told Rayawa that he must learn to be independent from stray individuals and to carve out a new positive life for him when he gets out of prison.

Turagaloaloa was given a non-parole period of 14 years while Rayawa was not given a non-parole period.
