Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry said it was decided in the meeting the leadership issue be resolved at the party's national council meeting scheduled to be held next weekend.

Mr Chaudhry said the board also discussed the names of candidates to contest the general election on a party ticket.

"These are also to be endorsed by the national council next week," he said.

According to Mr Chaudhry, the board also condemned the latest allegations of police brutality against nine villagers from Waikubukubu Village in Tavua.

The FLP has called on police to step up its investigation into the allegations and to take strong disciplinary action against those found guilty.

"We have to put a stop to such torture tactics being used by our police force."
