Update: 5:31PM THE first full round of the 2018 Super Rugby season will kick-start today with the first match between the Highlanders and Blues at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, New Zealand at 8:35pm.

The litter is now reduced from 18 to 15 after the removal of Australia's Western Force as well as South Africa's Cheetahs and Southern Kings.

This means there are only three conferences, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Japan's Sunwolves gets shuffled into the Australian Conference while Argentina's Jaguares join the South African conference.

According to Sporting News Media, each team plays 16 home and away matches with eight games against the four teams from their own conference as well as four games against teams from the other conferences.

Super Rugby defending champions, the BNZ Crusaders have named a strong starting 15 for the New Zealand side including nine All Blacks with 281 test caps between them, led by captain Sam Whitelock and vice captains Matt Todd and Ryan Crotty.

The Crusaders website reports the BNZ Crusaders will kick off their 2018 Investec Super Rugby season at home this week, when they host the Chiefs in Christchurch tomorrow night.

The Rebels will also be taking on the Reds at Aami Park in Melbourne, Australia at 10.45pm tonight.

Meanwhile Fijians have another reason to be excited after last month's announcement that the Super Rugby fixture between the Highlanders and Chiefs will be hosted at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on June 30 this year.

  • Rebels Vs Reds   AAMI Park 10:45pm
