Update: 2:03PM A PORTABLE smoker for fish created by the University of the South Pacific may be the asset needed for fishing communities in Fiji.

The prototype uses three kilograms of firewood to produce thirty kilograms of smoked fish created over 24 hours.

President Jioji Konrote today visited the University and was given a demonstration of how the viable prototype is used.

"This is not only environmentally friendly but is also convenient for use in our villagers in Fiji," he said.

There are now plans in place to implement the portable smoker for fish in villages around the country.
