THE Vodafone Fiji rugby league under-23 players are keen to showcase their talents in the Commonwealth 9s rugby league festival in Australia this weekend.

Despite the lack of preparation time, head coach Jo Dakuitoga said the side would give their opponents a good game in all their games including the pool game against Australia. He said the side would have its first training in Australia as the team met for the first time at the Nadi International Airport yesterday.

"The Western boys had their own training in Nadi while the rest of the players trained in Suva,' said Dakuitoga.

"We will have our first full team training run in Australia where we can work on combination before the tournament starts. I know we didn't prepare well but the boys are fit and they are not new to rugby league we just need to go map out our combination."

The former Fiji Bati rep said the tournament would be an opportune time for the players to showcase their talents in Australia.

He said the onus was on the players to play smart and deliver the goods required of them. The side will play Australia, Wales and Scotland in their pool games.

"For me I want these boys to expose the talents we have in Fiji at this level. It's a big ask for these boys and a good test for them also," Dakuitoga added.

The side will be captained by Burenitu Cowboys forward Apakuki Tavodi. The touring party include a men's and women's teams of 13 players and two officials each.
